Annual June Recital~December Performance and Tea~Competitions

Annual June Recital

All registered students perform in our annual June recital at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. The theatre is only steps north of us on Yonge Street and has plenty of free parking.

For each of the past 15 years, a new full-length story has been written for the students to perform, showing the various classes in their styles of dance, plus some clever linking scenes and dances that blend classes or a selected mixed group in the school. We even have presented extra dances for brothers and siblings.

We have many fun and creative ways for parents and students to get involved to help bring our fabulous annual show to curtain. Whether you join us in prop making, costume detailing, themed spirit-building dance parties or our ever popular jello eating contest, being a volunteer will have you laughing with us and feeling great!

By mid-June we are ready with colourful costumes, delightful dances with theatrical lighting and effects, creative props, guest performers, and measure of humour to entertain you. Our show leaves you and the students with a feeling of accomplishment and pride to share. BRAVO!

“Theatre begins somewhere. All it takes is a tiny seed to begin, and our belief to nurture it.”

December Performance and Tea

Selected classes of students who attend at least twice per week will participate in our December performance for seniors and guests. This is a shorter presentation than our June show and uses a thematic thread, however is not a full story. Many times we re-use costumes from a previous June show or rent costumes specifically for this event. Some lighting and a tea and treats reception afterwards makes this a favourite part of the year for our dedicated students. We have performed at the McConaghy Seniors Centre for the members there for several years; and last year we entertained a very enthusiastic crowd of guests from the Russian CHATS group at the Richmond Hill United Church.

Extra rehearsals usually take place on a Sunday afternoon in November and/ or a public school PA day close to the presentation date.

“Creativity is not a commodity. It is an instinct, much like the one to breathe.”

Selected students are invited to participate in 2 area competitions. These competitions take place at the end of March and mid–April, and offer the thrill of performance in front of judges who will give encouragement and constructive feedback while we take note of how all the other competitors are performing. The experience opens the window beyond our studio and helps eager students to reach further.

We absolutely stress respectful attitude toward our fellow competitors, alongside our goal of top results. Our competitive team prioritizes rehearsals and classes over any other activities. They show talent, energy and an interest in improving, in addition a strong attendance record. Our competitive students pay competition registration fees in December. They will need to purchase costumes, and style their hair to match their team mates.

“Together, we are more than the sum of our individual selves.”
